Gift ideas for people aren’t easy and the process can get much more confusing when buying gifts for car lovers.

Check out these awesome gift ideas for car lovers.

Pay for car detailing

Cost: $80 – $350

car detail

NOT a drive through car wash, we mean a professional car detailing service. These are services that hand wash and clean the exterior and interior of vehicles. They differ from a traditional car wash as they take more care and more time and use specific products for paint, plastics, leather, carpet, glass and rubber.

They are more expensive than traditional car wash services. Costs vary with the options for example, deodorising, paint wax, ceramic coatings and buffing.

There are mobile services too that can come to a home or workplace.

Why not a drive through one at a petrol station?

Car lovers are pretty fussy and there’s a common theory that the brushes at car washes pick up debris and can scratch paint. A waterjet option, the no-touch ones, are better but some car lovers just won’t risk their perfect paintwork.

Car interior vacuum cleaner

Cost: $70 – $400

These vacuum cleaners are designed for cleaning nooks and crannies in cars, including the boot and storage cubbies and under seats.

A wet/dry option means they can pick up liquids as well as dry debris so car lovers can add their own cleaning liquids to carpets, then vacuum them up along with dirt. This results in an extremely clean interior.

These gift ideas can be used in homes too.

Can you just use a normal household vacuum cleaner in a car?

Yes, you can. However, the car vacuum cleaners come with a range of attachments specific for cars.

Dash cam

Cost: $100 – $900

Dash cams are not a new idea and are quite commonplace in Australia. More expensive options come with night vision, GPS and smartphone integration.

Others offer driver assist features like collision warnings and even lane departure warnings.

Ideally, you’ll want a dash cam that can quickly turn on and off, record as required and is easy to install.

Why would you need a dash cam?

They are really useful in the event of an accident or sometimes a traffic violation. If you’re in the right, it’s easy to prove that a collision is another driver’s fault or at least have evidence of the event.

Wireless charger

Cost: $30 – $150

phone charger

Some phones, like newer iPhones, attach to wireless chargers with magnets meaning that the charger can act as a phone holder as well. This means you can use the charger to hold a phone to display navigation without running the battery down.

Make sure that the person you’re buying the charger for has a phone that can be charged wirelessly.

What phones do they work with?

Generally, wireless chargers work with Samsung S7, S8, S9, S10, S20 and newer or Apple iPhone8, iPhone8 Plus, iPhone X and newer, among others.

High quality screwdriver set

Cost: $60 – $250

driver set

We’re saying high quality to include multiple sizes and magnetic tips. It’s really annoying losing screws in engine compartments and hard to reach places, magnetic tipped screwdrivers help solve this problem.

It’s also frustrating not having the right sized tools. This can happen when a screwdriver is too long to use as the handle hits objects or is too small to reach screws or has the wrong sized driver head.

What do car lovers need screwdrivers for?

If the person you’re buying a gift for likes tinkering with their car, they’ll likely replace, upgrade or add things to their vehicle. Often, this requires removing engine or interior parts such as small hose clamps or wiring harnesses.

Bluetooth tracker

Cost: $30 – $80

These are pretty versatile gift ideas. They allow users to track the location of their keys or other items.

About the size of a 50 cent coin and with universal phone connection, Bluetooth trackers alert the user when the tracker is within range. In other words, if a tracker is attached to someone’s keys, using a smartphone app, they’ll be able to see the location of the keys.

Users can also use a tracker to make their phone ring or the tracker make a sound, alerting them of the location.

If not in range, typically 50 meters or so depending on the tracker, some models can request community help which means you can anonymously ask other tracker users for help. You’ll get a notification of where and when the tracker comes into contact with another user who may pass by.

Can they show a moving location on a map like in movies?

No. If you’re thinking of a flashing dot moving on a map as it travels around a city, you’re probably thinking of a GPS tracker. These are more expensive and typically use a SIM card with a monthly subscription.

Plan B: a gift card

Pretty much all auto parts retailers like SuperCheap Auto and Autobarn offer gift cards of varying amounts.

This means the person you’re buying the gift for can select their own items, just try and go with them and grab a coffee as it’ll make it a little more special.

Where can I get these gift ideas?

Stores like SuperCheap Auto and Autobarn are an excellent starting point. JB Hifi is also a good choice for Bluetooth trackers and dash cams.

The good thing about buying gifts for car lovers is that you likely won’t get caught in a mad panic or Christmas rush as the stores above aren’t like some department stores.
